• Exhibition by celebrated Lebanese photographer Camille Zakharia to be on display until October 29, 2014
• The Gallery at Emaar Pavilion to showcase local, regional, and international exhibitions
Dubai, UAE; October 15, 2014: ‘The Gallery’ at Emaar Pavilion is Downtown Dubai’s newest arts destination that serves as a hub for creative expression, showcasing a compelling selection of photographs by celebrated Lebanese photographer, Camille Zakharia, entitled ‘Belonging,’ until October 29, 2014.
‘Belonging’ is a captivating series of stories that bring out the emotional, social and cultural context of people, especially those who lead an expatriate life. The subjects of the photographs are subject to constant transformation, reflecting the changes around them.
Zakharia had photographed 42 people, offering a myriad of emotional subtexts, to create a mesmerising and insightful look into the existential dilemmas and delights of people. He created collages out of these portraits that underscore the photographer’s belief that individuals share more commonalities than differences. Every photo collage, indeed, tells a powerful story that will linger in the minds of viewers.
An experienced surveyor of the contemporary human condition impacted by migration, immigration, globalisation, and displacement, Zakharia has exhibited his works across the Middle East, Europe, and North America. Most recently, his work was showcased at Bahrain’s first national pavilion at the 55th Venice Art Biennial.
‘The Gallery’ at Emaar Pavilion had hosted ‘Downtown Ramadan,’ defining its credentials as a dynamic arts exhibition hub in the heart of the city’s most vibrant cultural destination. It will continue to bring avant-garde exhibitions by contemporary artists.
‘The Gallery’ at Emaar Pavilion, the city’s newest art central, complements the ongoing development of The Opera District, a vibrant cultural destination in Downtown Dubai, anchored by the iconic Dubai Opera, a multipurpose venue for opera, theatre, concerts, art exhibitions, orchestra, film, sports events and seasonal programmes.
Ahmad Al Matrooshi, Managing Director, Emaar Properties PJSC, said: “Dubai has today emerged as one of the most vibrant arts and cultural destinations, supported by active patronage for artists and the arts. The remarkable growth in the number of galleries in the city and the overwhelming response to events such as Art Dubai have established Dubai as a clear favourite for art connoisseurs, collectors and creative professionals.
“Downtown Dubai is building on the impressive growth achieved by the city in the arts scene with ‘The Gallery’ at Emaar Pavilion. It redefines the approach to arts patronage by serving as a central hub for exhibitions and events. The art gallery is paving the way for cultural and arts events to be hosted at The Opera District, which will establish the city as the region’s cultural hub.”
The gallery is an essential component of Emaar Pavilion, which serves as Emaar’s dedicated presentation and sales centre showcasing all of the developer’s iconic projects.
