Dubai, UAE; February 12, 2014: Emaar Properties PJSC, the global developer of iconic projects, today announced a partnership with Art Dubai, the region’s largest and world’s most global art fair, for its eighth annual edition.

The partnership with Art Dubai further strengthens Emaar’s art and cultural affiliations, and contributes to the growing local art communities and industries within Dubai. Emaar’s flagship mega-development Downtown Dubai is envisaged to be the heart of arts and culture in Dubai and will include the new development, The Opera District. Announced by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, The Opera District will include Dubai Opera, a 2000-seat multipurpose performing arts centre inspired by the city’s maritime history, as well as luxury hotels, elegantly designed residential and serviced apartments, a retail plaza, restaurants, a Museum of Modern Art, waterfront promenades, recreational spaces and parks.

Emaar has also invested in a series of public artworks across Downtown Dubai, including South African sculptor Vincent Da Silva’s, Rhims Gazelle Herd Edition 1, and Korean artist Jaeyho Lee’s Chorus. Other accomplished and popular works in Downtown Dubai include famed Colombian figurative artist Fernando Botero's Horse 2007; Vincent Da Silva’s Life Size Andalucian Horse I; Kuwaiti sculptor Sami Mohamed Al Saleh’s Al Sidra; Syrian artist Lutfi Romhein’s Together; and Spanish sculptor Xavier Corbero’s Gathering.

Speaking about the partnership, Ahmad Al Matrooshi, Managing Director of Emaar Properties PJSC, said: “The identity of a city is defined also by its cultural context, and Emaar has been at the forefront in shaping Dubai’s cultural narrative through path-breaking initiatives such as the ‘Dubai Festival of Lights’, the Emirates Classic Car Festival. Today, Emaar’s communities are also cultural hubs, showcasing impressive works of arts by regional and international artists, while we are taking the city’s cultural appeal to the next level with The Opera District that underlines the development vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum. Art Dubai has evolved as a key driver of Dubai’s arts scene, and through our partnership, we are highlighting our commitment to create a dynamic platform for promoting the city as a global arts destination.”

Antonia Carver, Fair Director, Art Dubai, said; “It is an honour to welcome Emaar to the Art Dubai family. As the developer behind globally renowned icons of our city, Emaar has also made a much-valued contribution to enhancing our cultural lives and creating inspiring public spaces. We look forward to working hand-in-hand with Emaar to further stimulate and support our local artistic and creative communities. Together I believe we can attract even more global and regional galleries, artists, designers and makers, art collectors, and art lovers to Dubai – strengthening our city’s status as the regional hub for art, culture and creativity.”

Taking place at Madinat Jumeirah from March 19-22, 2014, Art Dubai is the leading international art fair in the Middle East and South Asia and acts as an essential meeting point in the art world, offering the opportunity to engage with the most comprehensive line-up of artists from across the region and beyond. This year, for the first time, the fair will present over 80 galleries in three distinct programmes – Contemporary, Modern, and Marker – together featuring over 500 artists.

Growing its reach through history as well as geography and always foregrounding quality and a curatorial approach, Art Dubai is a fair of discovery and diversity which brings together the most influential regional and global galleries to engage with the vibrant art scene in the region.

Art Dubai is held in partnership with The Abraaj Group and is sponsored by Cartier and Emaar. The Dubai Culture & Arts Authority is a strategic partner of Art Dubai, and supports the fair's year-round education programme.
