UAE’s cultural heritage and achievements are highlight of 41st National Day celebrations at The Dubai Mall

Dubai, UAE; November 30, 2012: The Dubai Mall, the world’s largest shopping and entertainment destination, is marking the 41st UAE National Day with a range of cultural and educational events, promising to delight residents and tourists as they come together and celebrate the ‘Spirit of the Union,’ until December 3, 2012.

Dubai, UAE; November 30, 2012: The Dubai Mall, the world’s largest shopping and entertainment destination, is marking the 41st UAE National Day with a range of cultural and educational events, promising to delight residents and tourists as they come together and celebrate the ‘Spirit of the Union,’ until December 3, 2012.

The Dubai Mall is rolling out an unprecedented range of activities to mark the ‘Spirit of the Union,’ including an initiative to pay tribute to the UAE called ‘Our Efforts, Raise Our Flag’, by Watani, the UAE-entity working towards promoting and strengthening national identity. Under the initiative, visitors will be encouraged to express how their efforts play a role in contributing to the UAE’s development. The most inspiring messages will be presented to His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates.

Nasser Rafi, Chief Executive Officer, Emaar Malls Group, said: “The UAE has achieved tremendous progress in the past four decades and residents can be proud of living in such an inspiring nation. We are celebrating the UAE National Day by putting the spotlight on education and culture at The Dubai Mall. We hope local communities and tourists will come together to enjoy the activities that reflect our cultural heritage as well as our achievements over the years.”

Among other key attractions at the mall, the UAE Ministry of Culture, Youth & Community Development is presenting an exhibition on the ‘Spirit of the Union’ at The Waterfall Atrium until Dec. 3, while the Emirates Institution for Advanced Science and Technology (EIAST) will showcase a model of DubaiSat-2 to highlight the advances made by the nation in the space industry, at the Treasury Dome until Dec. 6.

Hamdan International Photography will present a photo exhibition on the UAE until Dec. 10 at Grand Atrium and Sougha, a Khalifa Fund initiative, will host a ‘Get your Sougha’ event until Dec. 6, offering visitors the opportunity to purchase genuine designers inspired by Emirati heritage.

There will also be daily cultural performances by Harbiya Band at Grand Atrium and Souk Atrium from 5pm to 10pm. In addition, visitors will enjoy the soothing melody of the oud, qanoon and piano players at Fashion Avenue.

The mall will be decorated with UAE national flags while guest service staff, dressed up with flag colors pins and scarves, will give away UAE-themed memorabilia to visitors. The Dubai Mall will also host hospitality tents providing coffee and dates to visitors at the Fashion Avenue and Grand Atrium entrance.

The Dubai Fountain, the world’s tallest performing fountain, overlooking the Waterfall Promenade, will serenade to the UAE National Anthem daily at 1:30pm, 6pm, 8pm and 10:30pm. During National Day celebrations, the mall will offer extended hours on weekdays (Nov. 29, Dec. 2 & 3) from 10am to 1am and on weekends (Nov. 30 & Dec. 1) from 10am to 3am.

Located in the heart of the prestigious Downtown Dubai mixed-use development, The Dubai Mall features retail outlets, two anchor department stores and over 160 food and beverage outlets. The 440,000 sq ft Fashion Avenue, dedicated to high fashion, positions the mall as the fashion capital for the region, while The Souk, featuring 99 stores offering gold & jewellery, traditional handicrafts, souvenirs, abayas, perfumes and carpets, among others, in a dedicated precinct designed to reflect traditional Arabic heritage and culture. The Village is the region’s first indoor-outdoor streetscape with a fully retractable roof, with tree-lined walkways, cafes and restaurants.
