The Dubai Mall unveils new audio-visual spectacle, ‘Melodies of the Village’

Dubai, UAE; September 4, 2013: Adding to its diversity of visitor attractions, The Dubai Mall, the world’s largest shopping and entertainment destination, has introduced a brand-new spectacle set to elevate the visitor experience with ‘Melodies of the Village,’ a creatively designed LED audio-visual system.

A new art installation in The Village, the mall’s dedicated denim district, the ‘Melodies of the Village’ features LED lights with a musical system that respond to touch. The brilliant light display is accompanied to native bird song and music, an attraction set to appeal to all.

‘Melodies of the Village’ offers a fun and interactive experience that adds to the overall street feel characteristic of The Village. The sound effects created by touch, evoke bird calls in flight from native or migrating species in the Arabian Peninsula, enhancing the outdoor feel of The Village. 

This public art installation marks the collaboration of artists, architects, engineers and technological disciplines from across the world, and is a masterpiece that combines advanced technology, light and sound to create a captivating experience. The composers have selected melodic and symbolic bird songs of the region including the call of the Peregrine Falcon, African Desert Warbler and Arabian Babbler.

Visitors can interweave between 30 touch sensitive LED lights with sound systems, which reach heights of up to 4 metres. They can create their own music and admire the melodic compositions and light displays. It also includes a dream mode that plays a series of ‘remembered’ melodies when the 96 touch points are not activated.

The region’s first indoor-outdoor streetscape with a fully retractable roof, tree-lined walkways, cafes and restaurants, The Village, Denim District offers shoppers an extensive array of high-street and high fashion denim brands, all in one convenient location. It also features an assortment of restaurants in a vintage streetscape setting.

Lending a true outdoor and community feel, the shopping experience at The Village, Denim District at The Dubai Mall is informal and relaxed. The retail mix focuses on trendy denim brands such as 7 for All Mankind, Denim & Supply Ralph Lauren, Faconnable Tailored Denim, Burton, DKNY Jeans, Harley Davidson, Caterpillar, Merrell, Hilfiger Denim, Wrangler, and TRBJ.

Located in the heart of the prestigious Downtown Dubai mixed-use development, The Dubai Mall has over 1,200 retail stores, two anchor department stores and over 200 F&B outlets. The 440,000 sq ft Fashion Avenue, dedicated to high fashion, positions The Dubai Mall as the fashion capital for the region, while The Souk, featuring 99 stores offering gold & jewellery, traditional handicrafts, souvenirs, abayas, perfumes and carpets, among others, is a dedicated precinct designed to reflect traditional Arabic heritage and culture. The mall is also linked directly to the Dubai Metro station through an air-conditioned travellator.
