Organized trips with professional local operators are easily arranged and most have authentic Arabian camps, where you can rest for a feast under the stars, accompanied by shisha (hubble bubble) pipes and belly dancers for the ultimate in evening entertainment. With a little local knowledge and common sense, it is perfectly feasible to pack up your 4X4 and conquer the desert yourself ! For those in pursuit of the Tiger line, you are simply spoilt for choice with a number of world-class golf courses to choose from. Designed by some of the most revered and respected names in the golfing community, Dubai offers you the opportunity to retrace the fabled footsteps of modern-day legends, Colin Montgomerie, Ernie Els and Mark O’Meara, to name but a few, and to refine your swing amongst stunning settings of landscaped greens and fairways, home to many species of exotic birdlife. Arabs have long held an affinity with all things equine and the Arabian horse is thought to be one of the oldest pure breeds of horse - its origins steeped in Bedouin myth and legend. This goes some way to explain the immense popularity of the highly competitive horseracing scene in Dubai. Whether an owner or a just a spectator, a night at the races is certain to excite the senses and get pulses rising ! Falconry and Camel racing are other traditional Arabian sports which also enjoy immense popularity in modern day Arabia. Air Parasail over Jumeirah Beach, Dubai’s ‘Golden Mile’ and enjoy the thrill of soaring high in the sky, or harness the power of the wind and feel the rush of adrenaline as you dominate the waves aboard a Windsurf or Kiteboard. The Arts For those who appreciate the Arts, Dubai has a number of small, privately owned Art Galleries that are open to the public and regularly showcase new talent and artists from the region. Theatre is also growing in prominence, with performances from several visiting theatre companies each year. Many of Dubai’s mega-projects have planned theatres, auditoriums and open-air amphitheatres, designed to attract the performing arts community and develop homegrown talent. Music & Laughter Dubai has hosted some of the world’s most famous bands, singers and DJ’s and is now firmly established as ‘the city to play’ in the region on many artistes’ itineraries. Mariah Carey, Beyonce, 50 Cent, Tom Jones, Joaquin Cortes and Jamiroquai are just some of the many big name entertainers that have enraptured Dubai recently. World-class DJ’s are in no shortage either, with repeat appearances from Danny Rampling, Judge Jules, Brandon Block and Pete Tong spinning Dubai’s dance floors into a veritable frenzy. The likes of Deep Dish, Satoshi Tomeii, Steve Lawler, Nick Warren and Sasha have also graced the decks at popular Dubai nightspots over recent months. Comedy Clubs are gaining in popularity and on several nights each month, brave stand up comedians endeavor to tickle and amuse the Dubaiian sense of humor in many of the city’s more popular watering holes. |
