Emaar, The Economic City signs SR250 million contract with Huta Group

Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, August 1, 2007: Emaar, The Economic City (Emaar.E.C), the Tadawul-listed company developing King Abdullah Economic City (KAEC), has contracted Saudi Arabia-based Huta Group to undertake the development of water canals within the 168 million sq m mega-project.

Dr Abdulraouf Mannaa, Managing Director, Emaar.E.C, and Mr Saleh Bin Laden, Chairman, Huta Group, signed the SR250 million contract to lay out man-made water canals with supporting walls, over a total area of 1.9 million cubic m. The project is scheduled for completion by late-2008.

“King Abdullah Economic City is the single largest private sector-led project in the region, and it is important to have partners with a proven track record in undertaking complex projects to meet our requirements,” said Dr Mannaa. “As a mixed-use development with a strong residential and hospitality component, it is important to have spectacular landscaping within KAEC especially in the Residential and Resort districts. Huta Group is a Saudi company with established credentials in the construction sector and will be a perfect partner to enhance the aesthetics of the project through water canals. In the first phase of development, Huta will build 3.5 km of water canals before the end of 2008.”

Mr Bin Laden said: “KAEC is a prestigious project that will redefine the accepted parameters in construction engineering. We are privileged to be part of this mega-development, and we will bring in international-class engineering techniques in laying out the water canals.”

Located on the Red Sea coast, KAEC has six key components: the Sea Port, Industrial Zone, Central Business District (including the Financial District), Resort District, Educational Zone and Residential Communities. Work is progressing according to schedule on the Industrial Zone, Residential and Resort districts. Potential investors can visit the Presentation Centre at KAEC for more details and for registrations.
